Curtain Pelmet Types

Pelmets can come in two main types; hard pelmets which are made from either timber, Essex board, chipboard or plywood, or soft pelmets which are made of face fabric, lined and interlined and then seamlessly attached by Velcro or tacks to a top flat board. Either solution give a fantastic finish and a luxury feel and both are covered completely in a quality fabric of your choosing.

Hard pelmets are made to fit the board above the window and there are many styles from traditional with trims and shaping, to modern, flat, straight, and wadded and all can be made with different styles of trim. The top of the pelmet is usually straight with a shaped bottom edge, which can be arched, curved or serpentine (waved up and down across pelmet). There is a great variety of trimmings that can be used, all sourced from our extensive range of leading suppliers, and these include simple cord, small braid, fan edging, tassel fringe, rope and bullion. Tassels and fabric trumpets can also be added for maximum effect and when used for arched and shaped windows they can really accentuate the shape.

Curtain Pelmet Box

Hard pelmet boxes are often used to hide other hardware in a window, such as electric roller or pleated blinds and tracks which can be seen as unsightly. These pelmets can be made to measure, on-site, and depending on the window, can be several metres wide. The making and installing of these requires specialist knowledge and a skilled fitted, both of which are always provided as standard by Jackie Blackman. Soft pelmets are made with fabric, interlining and lining, and can also come in a vast variety of styles. From gathered headings with a top edge contrast fabric border or bottom edge trims, shaped, undulating for a gentle finish. Both are very popular and give a luxury finish to any window treatment.
